Carpet Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid

In commercial environments, the carpets are often the first to show signs of deterioration and dirt. Over time, wear and tear can mean your carpet doesn’t look as aesthetically pleasing as it once did – and it could leave people with a negative impression of your business. You may think you’re doing everything you can to ensure your flooring is kept clean and tidy, but are you carrying out your carpet cleaning as effectively as you could?

Here are some common carpet cleaning mistakes you might be making without even knowing.

Rubbing stains

Someone in the office spills a Pepsi or some ink explodes over in the copy area. The first thing people tend to do is frantically start rubbing at the stain in order to get rid of it. However, rubbing is not recommended. Rubbing a stain can actually cause it to sink deeper into your carpet fibres, taking root where you really don’t want it to. You can also make the stain bigger by spreading it over a wider area. It sounds counterintuitive but gently blotting a liquid stain is the best course of action. Once you’ve done that you can use a carpet cleaning product on the stain.

Vacuuming with a full bag

We’re all guilty of neglecting to change the bag in the vacuum cleaner but this can seriously reduce the efficiency of your clean. You’ll get reduced suction and an overall poor vacuum. You may even find that if you’re regularly using products, such as dry powder carpet cleaner, that your filters become clogged. Don’t stop regularly vacuuming your carpet, just remember to empty the machine after each use.

Being slow to tend to a stain

No matter kind of stain you have you must attend to it as soon as possible. Ideally, it needs to be cleaned when the accident has just happened. Leaving your stain to dry can cause it to thoroughly embed in your carpet and settle in, deep within the fibres. This makes it much harder to get the stain out and sometimes no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to fully remove the stain. You also have odour control to think about. The longer you leave a stain the more difficult it will be to get rid of the odour.

Neglecting professional cleaning equipment

In a commercial setting, it makes sense to use professional cleaning equipment to get the job done right. A commercial building sees a lot more traffic than a residential property and those that inhabit a commercial space tend to be a lot more lax regarding cleanliness. This means you’re going to see a much bigger build up of dirt and grime, and increased wear and tear. Looking at professional wet & dry vacuum cleaner hire or industrial carpet cleaner & extractor hire can ensure your carpets get the best clean possible.
